Baking Bites

Baking is something I enjoy thoroughly.. It is just therapy. My dad being in the armed forces, I spent most years of my childhood in places that were so remote that even our  food supply was limited to the monthly ration. In case we needed additional veggies, the nearest village/ market was at least 10-15 kms away.  So bakeries were out of question. If we did manage to have one in the base, it was luxury. As a result, baking cakes for my birthdays was done at home and YESS, I would help.. I would lick all the left over batter once the cake went into the oven.. :P.. Fast forward many years, my sis and I took to it and making chocolates, baking cakes  became "tradition" atleast once a year when my cousins visited. So although Im not a fan of cooking (AT ALL.. !!)  I can spend hours baking and experimenting on a variety of things.. We made it all- Custards, cakes, cupcakes, tarts, mousse, puddings- basically DESSERTSSS!!!

After my post on some creative experimenting on forms of chocolates, other than the baskets that were instantaneously consumed, the rest went on to some freshly baked cupcakes.

Cakes are one of the easiest thing to bake. I SO don't rely on the instant mixes- the best is to make your own batter and trust me.. even if you dont have a kitchen aid or a hand mixer, the end result is worth all the effort taken to incorporate all the ingredients.. It wins hands down- however good the cake mix is.

One of the best cupcakes I made so far ( my husband also says so) was Pumpkin cupcakes with butter cream frosting for Halloween 12'. The cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves gave an awesome flavour and till I made this, I never knew spices would taste so yummy in cupcakes.

Chocolate-Coconut rolls and chocolate mousse are also something everyone in my family loves. Technically, both dont fall under the category of "baking" but they are the easiest to make both in terms of ingredients and time taken to get them ready... and of course they look and taste delicious.

Im not a chocolate fan and I do not have a sweet tooth AT ALL!! But  I love a lot of tangy stuff  so my most recent one was lemon tart.  Tried and tested this long back with sis, and Im glad I made it again..

Assuming that I have successfully tempted and watered your mouths enough, I shall leave the rest of the pics for future posts and instead try and post out the recipes soon!!! In the mean time if you do want to taste them, you're welcome any day, any time :) The pleasure is all mine :)

Quarter Life crisis

An interesting article I came across for all of us who have just completed a quarter*  of our lives. I am copy-pasting the article as it is. A leverage of +/- 2 years is granted ;) (* I am trying to be optimistic in assuming that  all of us are sure of a full 100 years on this planet.) So here it goes... " Being a twenty-something It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.  You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean or i...

Life teachings

A very well written quote that I read a couple of days back. “Not everything is supposed to become something beautiful and long-lasting. Sometimes people come into your life to show you what is right and what is wrong, to show you who you can be, to teach you to love yourself, to make you feel better for a little while, or to just be someone to walk with at night and spill your life to. Not everyone is going to stay forever, and we still have to keep on going and thank them for what they’ve given us.” — Emery Allen It is humility to forgive people who have caused pain to you, but in reality they've taught you a very valuable lesson. When I look back at every "bad" incident that has happened to me in my life, I feel good.  A formula that I always believe in- Whatever happens is for the good!

Asli Swaad Zindagi Ka!!

I was talking to a friend last night about chocolates and that did remind of something that I had forgotten in months, CADBURY'S DAIRY MILK. Apart from the immense craving that I developed post that conversation, I also ended digging up some nostalgic ads that only contributed to its increase .... So here are some of my favourite Dairy Milk Ads.. I might have missed out a few, but for now "Enjoy maadi"!! My fav  and perhaps the best one of the lot: More ... And amongst the new ones.. I did like this one So..  Mesdemoiselles et  Messieurs .. amusez vous et vous voir la prochaine fois!! ( Ladies & Gentlemen, Enjoy yourselves and see you next time).
